I think winter is finally going to set. We had such a nice warm week. And that's it. Here we go. I do remember that being a trend, we will always have a suddenly warm week and then straight into winter we go. Of course, it hasn't been this warm in December the last 8 years I have been here and clearly records show even longer time before.

So, D will be off for two weeks. She wants to come to office with me and work alongside with me and meet all my colleagues and my boss. She has already made a list of things she would need to take with her. She did share that I would need to walk her around the office so she meets everyone and she doesn't get lost. I realised later that she thinks our office takes up the whole building. Alas, we have but 4 rooms.

She says she is not going to take her coloring book because that's for children. She will take her notebook and write stories. When I shared that I will be unable to help her constantly with some big word spellings, she said she is big now and she will just S-O-U-N-D out the words and stretch them, like the word AVAAA-ILABLEEE. oh dear.

You should hear her making up her own math problems. That's even more fun!

Maybe I will do half day! And then go to the museum. Or maybe go visit the national christmas tree after.

Did all our shopping for the holiday cooking and the coming week(s)! Come rain, snow, or sleet however unhappy that would make us! We are ready! Come friends/family, we are ready and overly excited!

Of course, all the groceries are sitting by the main door (inside of course, not that lazy) and waiting for me to put them away! sigh. And here I have ten minutes before going to pick D up.

It's so sad that some of the stores are staying open Thursday! Why?! They were wishing me a happy thanksgiving and it didn't make me happy because I couldn't really wish them back! They would be at work! Why can't we have one holiday when we all get a break and enjoy it with family/friends! Thanksgiving could be that holiday for us. It's not religious, it's just a nice time and be grateful!

I am now thinking with our firends over on Friday/Saturday we could decorate a tree. hmmm.... no I don't want to go to a store on Wednesday. And today the weather is just too beautiful to shop again. Meh. We can decorate the window sill! The outdoors wins! It's a balmy 70F!!!!

December 25, 2009

On a cold chilly freezing morning, with a few feet of snow piled up on either side of the road, we took a cab to the Baltimore Washington International Airport. For the first time in the two year history I have been here, we had an American drive us, Caucasian to boot! Very friendly and a local guy, shared a lot about his life and how things have changed in the metro-DC area. As many cab drivers, he peppered his talk with religion, politics, philosophy, family story, and life in general. A great start to Christmas morning!

We were eagerly awaiting our flight departure and escape to the warmth of Florida. Luckily by then the airports had cleared up their runways and we were all set to go!

You can still see the snow cover on the non-essential part of the airport. But we didn't care. We could already feel the warmth of sun and the light breeze blowing onto our faces. We landed 2 and half hour later in Fort Lauderdale. MIL wondered if weather had an effect on people and their moods. Surely there must be some truth to it as we had such a friendly shuttle driver who picked us up and drove us to the car rental place! Although who wouldn't want to show off a place to a bunch of visitors still defrosting from the cold North! After picking up the car, we found ourselves driving down to Ft Lauderdale beaches.

All pictures in this post and the following were taken either by MIL or N. A handful were taken by me, but none that are shown here! I really relaxed! ;)

It feels like it was all a dream. Our two week trip took us to the Southwest of the United States and across the country to Niagara Falls and a quick trip to Toronto. We saw giant sized cacti, cowboys, Billy the Kid, tasted some of the best burritos one could ever have, saw the Grand Canyon, the horizons so far and away that looks completely beyond belief, saw some ice caves in the middle of the desert, the majestic falls, some lions and cheetahs and even a few giraffe!

It was a fabulous time with in-laws and of course hubby. This trip marked the milestone for the two of us - our two year wedding anniversary! Oh what fun it was!

We are all a bit dazed today as we commence unpacking. Wondering if we just dreamt it all! But the red dirt remaining on our sneakers remind us still that we did make that trip out!

Just 2,000 miles of driving and several hours of flying took us around!

Of course, the last two days of travel I came down with bad case of allergies. Blame the camels!! Hope everyone is well! More later...

Enjoying Mumbai! :) The city welcomed me in with the usual Mumbai pollution and humidity! Coming here from Singapore or Malaysia, the humidity didn't feel all that much different. But coming from DC, whoa, it hits you in the face! I feel forever drenched! The heat as well doesn't help! It should be cooling down a bit soon!

I took the train in Mumbai, on sunday during the off-peak hours and today just as the rush set in and made it through in one piece!

Haven't read anyone's journals. No time to yet! Busy eating away good yummy food!
