boredom

We spent today at the doctors' offices. Morning was mine and afternoon was D's. We have been nursing a cold all these weeks and guess it got to our ears and got us all dizzy/vertigo the last few nights. This is when I wish we had a family doctor instead of having to go to two different doctors!

But D loves doctor visits. She must love all the praise she gets from authority figures. So, she went prepared. She took a coloring book and coloring pens for morning appointment. Kept herself busy. I took a book but I really wasn't in the mood to read. D kept coming up to me and saying, "mommy, you are going to be bored! You should do something!" She thought I was being funny, that I liked watching people.

Now who taught my child the word, "bored"?? Please step up! :P Because that's all she talked about when it was her turn with her doctor. Here's a girl who can entertain herself in the carseat for hour or two straight with just one stuffed toy! Her doctor even set up this computer game, where the projector on the ceiling projects a screen on the floor and various short games are screened that require the kids to move about and pop balloons, watermelons, etc. Clearly, we can't let children get bored a little bit.

sigh.  feel sorry for the fish, the real fish in the aquarium (that formed the wall between the sick visits and the well-checks because they no longer are an attraction anymore!

But my doc's office had magazines and books. Children books too!! And OMG D was reading!!!!! When did that happen??!! OK, not a surprise, we have seen her progress over time. It's been so much fun to watch her. With us she was pretending she couldn't read and needed me to read (which I didn't mind at all). And then she would correct me when i misread something/skipped a word!! And then give a guilty look. This was a month ago. Now she keeps telling us she can do it herself!

I went to a doctor this morning for a checkup and I just loved the assistant who takes your weight and blood pressure. Alice was her name. She was awesome. Okay, she complimented me that I don't look a day over 20 and remarked how little I am as I weighed in their old-fashioned scale where she had to shift the weight (what is this type of machine called, anyone know?)! In a world obsessed with image and weight I do forget that I am little albeit out of shape (literally). But I am little. :D I like reminders like that...

I watched Bride Wars yesterday. A movie I know N won't like and I just wanted to watch a mindless movie. Well, it was excellent for a mindless movie alright. I guess I am not a big fan of extravagant weddings and so didn't really get attached to the characters much and just thought the whole thing was silly. Did laugh here and there but yeah. The friend who suggested this also suggested the Confessions of a Shopaholic - I think I will pass on that too. RedBox is just so cool. Of course, that comes in after the public library that has all the recent releases... you just have to wait in a virtual queue for quite some time if the movie was a huge hit!

I have been making yummy salads for lunches the last two days. Hubby has been rather amusing. Before his trip, I warned him to stay away from salads as one can't be too sure of the water. His answer, "why would I have salads outside when you make the best ones?!" cute and smart.

How do you respond to a doc's assistant when she says, "Can you come in on 17th July at 10am?" And that's the earliest appointment you can get. ugggh.... *slaps head to table* This is after a try to two other doctors who are not taking in new patients! sigh... I should have gotten my testing done in India when I had the chance. And then at least there wouldn't be a need for a hurry to go see a doc and July 17th would be just fine! But then I didn't want to spend as much time as I did away from home, etc. sigh. sigh sigh.... ughhh

I had so many things to share but now my mind draws a blank.
  • Rode the train again and nearly got trampled over and hubby got a scolding. But it was fun!
  • Enjoyed some yummy bhel, a sandwich dosa, some scrumptious home cooked Marathi food.
  • Visa got renewed without any hassle at all. The whole saga lasted about 20 minutes!!
  • I am down with my allergies. Yay to Mumbai pollution. uggghhhhh
  • Everyone has become a security expert after the Mumbai blasts. Had and overheard many interesting conversations.
