We spent today at the doctors' offices. Morning was mine and afternoon was D's. We have been nursing a cold all these weeks and guess it got to our ears and got us all dizzy/vertigo the last few nights. This is when I wish we had a family doctor instead of having to go to two different doctors!

But D loves doctor visits. She must love all the praise she gets from authority figures. So, she went prepared. She took a coloring book and coloring pens for morning appointment. Kept herself busy. I took a book but I really wasn't in the mood to read. D kept coming up to me and saying, "mommy, you are going to be bored! You should do something!" She thought I was being funny, that I liked watching people.

Now who taught my child the word, "bored"?? Please step up! :P Because that's all she talked about when it was her turn with her doctor. Here's a girl who can entertain herself in the carseat for hour or two straight with just one stuffed toy! Her doctor even set up this computer game, where the projector on the ceiling projects a screen on the floor and various short games are screened that require the kids to move about and pop balloons, watermelons, etc. Clearly, we can't let children get bored a little bit.

sigh.  feel sorry for the fish, the real fish in the aquarium (that formed the wall between the sick visits and the well-checks because they no longer are an attraction anymore!

But my doc's office had magazines and books. Children books too!! And OMG D was reading!!!!! When did that happen??!! OK, not a surprise, we have seen her progress over time. It's been so much fun to watch her. With us she was pretending she couldn't read and needed me to read (which I didn't mind at all). And then she would correct me when i misread something/skipped a word!! And then give a guilty look. This was a month ago. Now she keeps telling us she can do it herself!

Day 23: Entrance
Day 23: entrance
When I was pregnant a friend advised me to say goodbye to my small purses. Tonight as I go out without kid, I make an entrance with a small purse!

Wednesday the ladies got together for a night out at a new local restaurant, Republic Kitchen & Bar. It just opened a few weeks ago. Vegetarians aren't so welcome it seems, which is strange for the Metro DC area. I wouldn't make this complaint anywhere else in the country. Even South American restaurants here whose culture is so meat-centric has delicious vegetarian options. The French restaurant in DC has only pomme frites (fries) on their menu but the chef cooks up a delicious concoction (an adult meal) if you mention your requirements. At this place, sure they had some steamed spinach & macaroni and cheese. But I was trying to get away from my kid and there I was eating a kids meal! Heck even Brazil is vegetarian friendly now*!! However, the service was excellent and the company wonderful! So, all in all had a wonderful time. there were three moms, one single gal, one newlywed! Can't wait for the next one!

* we lived in Brazil for a year back in the early 80s. The only vegetarian option we had was red beans. Getting vegetables was such a challenge! It was the only time in our lives that mom had non-vegetarian food! Hubby and I went there back in 2009 and had absolutely no trouble eating delicious yummy food!!

Day 24: Pop of color
Day 24: burst of color
With the flower blooms mostly gone the first sprouts/leaves sprout. The green is just refreshing!

Day 25: Remember
Day 25: remember
D has been helping me remember days of yesteryears when she clung to me all day and night! Enjoying the cuddles, which are so rare these days, but not the crying. Sigh.

Day 26: Little things in life
Day 26: enjoy little things in life
Anytime of the day, read a book together.

Gone are the days of reading. When I actually look at it, there's time to read. So many around me are reading such interesting books/topics. My list of to-read is only growing. When the time to read does show up, my mind is numb and I just want to vegetate. D barely lets me read the paper until she finds herself in my lap, flipping newspaper pages and then taking over. She lets her dad read though. Maybe it's all about where you sit at home.

I have gotten books from the library. Either they have sat too long on the hold shelf in the library never picked up, or sit atop our shelf only to be returned, or I read a few pages before giving up. My attention span surely has gone to the dumps.

The swim class was a great hit for D. Of course! I went over later and during the class she spotted me a few times out of the crowd and gave me the biggest and the happiest of smiles!

My excitement for her happiness in a swimming pool is due to my dismal performance at the pool when I learnt. Every coach of mine had given up and my mom who never learnt taught me over several summers. Family was obviously surprised at how I ended up in Hawai'i for so many years!

The big problem we ran into yesterday was by the end of class, D was shivering like crazy. By the time we dried her up and had her changed, her hands, feet and lips were blue!!!! It was scary. N was giving her food, while I had her wrapped in a jacket and rubbing her feet and hands at the same time. She didn't seem to care though. But it scared us. Other kids in class were running about normally. I wonder if we did something wrong. She came back to normal within ten minutes. I remember shivering too after getting out of the pool even in the hot summers of Hyderabad but the whole feet/hands being blue freaked me out!

And the cold weather plus no heat at home didn't help the rest of the night.
