let it snow!

oh my goodness... we woke up...well, husband is still sleeping in. Who wouldn't on this cold snowy morning. Me however had to get up as my stomach was growling and needed a bathroom run and a few glasses of water. Dude, the kid has already become the boss!

I woke up with great inspiration that we should buy a sewing machine. I think it's much more realistic for me to use that than actually knitting something! I have learnt how to use a machine before and how to measure and sew clothes. Although, the one pair of shorts I had set out to make in high school extra-curricular activity lessons was never actually finished (I only took sewing class for one semester. The teacher never wore a bra and I got tired of trying to avert my eyes everytime she came over to help! You can imagine the fun the boys had, but she really didn't have much to show, and hence the no-bra policy probably, but really someone should tell her not to bend over so much!!!!).

So, I have many dreams of sewing up blankets (which I have experience doing with as well), small tops and bottoms for the baby and already can visualise the dollars saved! Of course, to actually save, I would need to commit doing it for a few years. And I was thinking the alterations I could do like hemming up pants I buy that fit right but are too long! Small stuff. So, I am eagerly awaiting the awakening of my husband to share this big news and watch his face turn in utter bemusement!

Blame it on the snow. There's so much of it! I think we have collected about 8 inches overnight! And it's still snowing!! Maybe later this afternoon we will bundle up and go out! We really are stuck at home this weekend and I am so happy it's with my husband. We haven't had this much time together in months! 

I am hungry again.. that banana was only going to give me so much time! I made batter for dosas and it fermented! yay!!! Off to make some coconut chutney and enjoy hot hot dosas in this cold dreary weather!

Sewing machine's definitely worth buying. Even if you don't make new clothes / blankets / etc., you'll probably end up doing lots of alterations and mending as your kiddo grows :-)

yes! I was just hesitating earlier because we are in a one bedroom apartment and wasn't sure where to make room for it. but figured something out!

Any suggestions on how to shop for one? There are so many choices!! My motherinlaw suggested I also look for an embroidery attachment. So can do a bit more with it... I guess she is thinking the baby will be a girl! :)

Haha, I'm the last person you should ask since I'm a newbie sew-er ;-) We bought a basic Singer machine because I don't foresee myself doing anything too fancy in the near future.

Your MIL's right though -- an embroidery attachment would be nice! You can embroider things for a boy too :-P

well, I think getting suggestions from a newbie is also good as the very experienced people sometimes forget how it's like for a newbie! ;)

oh yes.... I used to do embroidery by hand. Had lots of fun. but that was when I was soooo much younger! The attachment should be fun!

It was the way mother-in-law said it that made me feel that she thinks it's a girl! :)

Guess what I am trying my hand at knitting starting next week!I hope I really like it especially considering all pretty and cute things I can do. Sewing can be fun too.I remember my mom sewing clothes for me and my sister when we were young. How lovely those clothes were! Good luck with sewing.

enjoy! I do think the only way to learn knitting is from someone else and a class is a great motivating factor to keep at it!! :)

The oven! Plus, I noticed that I should use the water that the dal and rice has been soaking in to grind and not fresh water. That seemed to do the trick. With the oven, I would preheat to the lowest heat setting 175F for five minutes. Turn it off and leave the batter inside. Same thing for yoghurt also. And if it's reallllly cold, then after 4-5 hours I take out the batter or curds and again preheat the oven and turn off and back the items go!
