17 What self-care things do you find helpful to ground yourself or “talk yourself down from the ledge” when you’re overwhelmed by your feelings or by stress?
Do memes on DW count? :) I usually scream into a pillow, jump around, listen to music, have a good cry, hum, hide under the blanket and then give myself a pep talk. It depends on the situation. In college, being in Hawai'i a walk on the beach or a dip in the ocean - I do miss it.

18 What is the most extreme weather you have ever experienced?
The polar vortex a few years ago? I think it was 2012. Before it arrived, I thought I had lived here long enough to get used to winter. I bought the proper gear and boots. And well, then the temps dipped to 10F (not counting windchill)!!!!!!!! Dang it. I did make it out and survived!! ha hahaha... And believe that was the winter we got almost 2 feet of snow? Many lost power, but we didn't.

Rest of January questions )

What is up with the weather? California (I think northern parts) is getting warnings of heavy rains. Mid-west is getting tornadoes and most of the North East (if not already) is getting a snow - on the FIRST day of Spring. sigh.

I got a huge box full of Spring Mix to make you know Spring-y Salad! But it appears more like we need to make a big pot of winter soup to ring in Spring!

Last week, N & I headed to Costco to get our Costco membership cards!! I got my contact lenses through them - with the membership even they costed lower than other retailers. So, the membership paid off for itself. Now I also had to make N promise that he will not go buy the whole store! N loves a deal. Whether you need it or not. It's the "Asian" stingy-ness stereotype fulfilled.

So, of course, we came home with a big box of salad greens. 5 pounds of CARROTS!!! And A few gallons of oil. So, we are set in that department. Lucky, we are going through a phase where my daughter loves nibbling on whole carrots??

It's just raining today. Some parts are getting sleet apparently. But the snow is to arrive tonight or tomorrow morning. Since it's raining, they can't really pretreat the roads - or at least it won't be that effective since the salt will just get washed away. So, they are waiting for the rain to turn to snow.

So on our first full day of Spring tomorrow, we will be having a Snow Day! Our estimates are 2-4 inches - we are missing the big brunt compared to those just a bit north of us. But they are saying we might even get more. We are right at that boundary where it could be a boom or bust.

Happy Spring everyone!

Well, it snowed!! woo hoo! Our first snow!! For all but maybe 15 minutes?? The roads are dry and no one would even guess we had snow or even rain or sleet, or any form of precipitation.

It is however FREEZING cold and oh so windy! My daughter is absolutely loving it! And my credibility that it is in fact WINTER has been redeemed in her eyes! Mommy's no longer lying! And to humour me, she wore TWO jackets! But wai, no hat and no gloves. But that's good too, her hands were warm to touch, she demonstrated by sticking her hand up my arm since I was all bundled up in every winter attire appropriate for the weather! ;)

Stay warm people!

Will the school be open or not be tomorrow?! That is the big question! As promised, the snow started falling this morning. Maybe we got not more than 2 inches, if that. By 4pm there was a lot of freezing rain and ice. Our neighboring counties have cancelled school tomorrow. Our county is special. We won't know till morning, likely.

I am so willing to take up the USPS motto of, Rain, shine, sleet, or snow! to take D to school tomorrow! lol… She missed all last week and she is absolutely bored out of her mind! Poor thing.

How do working parents plan for snow days? And how do parents of multiples do this? D's first question as we wake up in the morning is, "where are we going?" sigh.

I know there are bigger problems in the world.

Our first snowfall and already the snickering has begun of those who come from colder states about how we can't handle even a little bit of snow. The thing though is, it's not snow. It's ice. And yeah, we are not used to it unlike IL, WI, or Minnesota! geez…enough already! I stopped snickering when you call 85F heat wave! grr… ah.. and winter has only just begun!

The last snowstorm that we thought would be the last for the season shut the whole city down. Well, this was it! By afternoon it all disappeared!

We were ready for spring. We were so disappointed. bah. On Friday I saw the forecast of snow/rain for Monday. Many of us did and didn't even bother about it. We didn't want to get our hopes up. Most of us didn't actually. We thought if we ignored the forecast, closed our eyes and ears it would just go away.

But come Sunday evening we began to have flurries! And woke up to 2 inches of snow (at least)! It snowed till noon and now is just cloudy! Schools are anyway closed for spring break. City didn't close offices. Life moved on.

snow

We are now ready for spring to really show up. Cherry blossoms are supposed to peak in ten days. I don't know. Spring was just budding as the snow came.

BUT D & I got to play in the snow!! We helped another girl build her snowman. I had no clue as to how to build one as I never did before!! hahaha! And then we built our own! (Plus the girl kind of wanted to do her own thing and was slowly physically pushing D aside whenever her mom looked away or was attending to her big sister a few feet away!) We built two big ones and a small one. D made a family. She seemed to want to make more but I convinced her it was time to come home!

snow

She enjoyed all of it, except for the snow falling on her face. She kept wiping it off!
