I remembered what we did on the 24th night! Oh how could I forget! It rained! But we had reservations at a Haitian restaurant - Tap Tap restaurant (the website has some pics of the place)! It was a beautifully done up place - the artwork is just fabulous (we went there also because they had more than one vegetarian option!!) and the food was delicious!! yum yum! We had some aged rum straight up and in some cocktails. The service was fantastic! Great find! A bit away from the beach, but worth a trip!!

The second day we were to spend "sightseeing" with a change... Me driving and husband navigating. Funny. really. But first we went to the Holocaust Memorial in Miami beach - we got there easy enough. It was though a very moving place to be. The artists who sculpted the statue did an amazing job. From the outside you see the arm rising up and as you walk through the walls, you get an opportunity to see it closer and the horror in their faces sent me off in tears. I couldn't stand there long. What added to it was also a reminder that for every horror that has been recognized with a memorial there are thousands of voices that go unheard. It's a sad world we live in.

As you walk through the corridor that lists all the concentration camps, you are greeted by the following being in utter distress and pain.

And then we drove up north on Miami Beach. We drove past Bal Harbour, saw a very modern Miami...and took the right road out to mainland Miami. Hubby mentioned the street intersection where the monastery was supposed to be around and I kept driving on. I didn't realise the significance of that intersection as I was focusing on driving. He panicked and got confused and decided we should use the GPS. By then we had gotten to the interstate highway. For whatever reason the GPS, instead of asking us to make a u-turn wherever possible took us all way down to Miami and around in a circle!!! We realised that soon enough but got our bearings wrong and made the loop 2.5 times. We have never gotten lost this badly!! And finally we just gave up. We got tired of driving around in circles. For the first two loops N drove and then I took over again. I had gotten nervous at first at the sight of the interstate highway and since we were going in circles we switched back to the system that worked, he drives and I navigate. So, with the weather so nice we decided to go back and spend the afternoon at least on the beach. We found a beach around Sunny Isles to be less crowded and touristy and thought to go there but we had forgotten our swim suits at the hostel. So, drove back, got our suits and towels and drove back. Well, ummm.... by the time we got back the storm clouds came in and it started to pour. We were not a happy couple. We waited it out in the car, got a subway footlong and as the rain stopped went back to the beach. By then people had left but heck we had a lot of the beach to ourselves!

The really cool thing we enjoyed about Miami Beach is the shallowness of the water. I had to zoom in a bit for the pic above and N can still touch the ocean floor!!
I relaxed on the beach. The speck on the left of my foot is N!

And spent the evening there till 9:30pm!! Again we found something to squabble about and yeah..not a good day. But we got a little time in the water! We headed back to the hostel, washed up and went out for dinner at some Mexican place.
