back in Rio

After a good night's rest, we spent Monday figuring out the luggage thing. We were still waiting for that other person to call and drop off the luggage. Anyhow, nothing much we could do, so we took a bus and then to the metro to head on to downtown Rio.





We got off one of the stations and found Gandhi's statue amidst the morning traffic.




I think this was City Hall. Not sure...but the paintings and the sculptures showing the history of Brazil - from the days of slavery, Portuguese invasion, etc. The statues were so well done.

Those old houses look gorgeous. I'm surprised at the metro though. So spacious and large.

yeah! also the metro there found that there are fewer number of seats (at least compared to DC) and the compartments are slightly wider too (compared to the metros here).

Wow! Gandhi Statue! Wonder what event it signified or commemorated.

yeah... we wanted to go up closer to it.. but were distracted looking at something else.

It seems though Gandhi statues can be found in a lot of locations around the globe. I have seen them in almost every country I have been to. a nice reminder!

That is wonderful! I realize that lots of people here also talk abt Gandhian Principles and adopting them. :) Makes me proud.
