talk about embarrassment
Jul. 31st, 2008 05:27 pmI was starved, famished. I attended a seminar and it went on for much longer than I anticipated. I really needed something to eat. I went to the usual subway in the food court, happy to see it was Korean owned and won't be pestered by a South Asian (the whole "an Indian has arrived" snickering happened a second time in DC the other day) and his silliness. I got myself jalapeƱos which I have been missing very much. Got ready to pay to find that I couldn't find my wallet. This is the reason why I have one purse that I take everywhere. Darn being all fashionable and changing bags and leaving things behind.
I wasn't just embarrassed but I felt horrible that the sandwich might go to waste (the manager at the cashier frowned and took it away)! I hope that someone eats it. Sigh... how horrible.
The other thought that went through my mind was what if my metro card had run out of money?! I would be the one asking people for some change to go home. I have helped a few out when they are the machine getting a ticket and are short of change. But there were a few I didn't help, cause it would make me go out of my way to do so. I felt horrible for those people and sorry. But luckily, the metro allows you to negative in one trip. Or it would have been too long a walk home. I guess I could have considered to cab it home and pay for it. It would make it one expensive lesson to learn.
