With all the goings on in the world I really need help figuring out what nationalism and patriotism mean anymore. Things people say/do here or in India and throw that word around, I am completely lost.

And for some reason liberals, left-leaning, feminists are all worse than four-letter words. Someone explain.

On that note, Saturday it snowed in the morning!!!! Don't ask. I don't know why. But it was windy, stormy and snowing!!!!! OK it did snow for maybe 15 minutes - big fat snowflakes. And the Virginia flag that flies on our building fell on the ground. D got upset and ran to tell the resident manager who pretty much had to stop what she was doing and go get it off the ground to get D off her back! lol.. And then D looked sober for a while and shared, "mommy, now how will we know if we are in the US?" [Ok we have to work on flag knowledge - that states also have their flags] I swear she doesn't read my journal!!

It's becoming a trend now. Every year around this time, I have the same rant/ramble/whatever-you-want-to-call it. I just wanted to look it up, copy & paste it here…But dang it I don't know if I even tagged it and if I did what I tagged it as. ah well.

With the recent snow days, there has been a lot of laughs at us locals for being so very weak handling snow. And you thought mommy wars were bad. oh wait, this is but an extension of it, as the wars are fought on school county FB pages, where you can detect who is from which region by their anger or support at closing of school days! ;)

oh wait! I found it!! lol… Uppity People..

And two snow days ago, we had barely an inch of snow and we closed. Again a lot of snickers but they were the ones slipping and falling because it wasn't an inch of snow, it was ICE. bleah.

Ah well, when the temps hit 90F and they all are running for the AC, and dying (not literally, I wouldn't wish that on people) of blistering heat, we will see who will be laughing! Not me, because I will be also running along to get into the AC room! Dang it..I have become a wimp even with extreme heat!

In fact, today at 30F, I was finding it pleasant!! OMG, I even took my muffler off and wore just my glove liner to give my daughter company (who must have been from the Arctic region in her past life, but humors me and wears all her layers!!). My family was in complete shock to hear that, a girl who never can/could tolerate cold is calling 30F pleasant!

ah..am just waiting for winter to be over. Our whole household is down with a virus. N lost his voice today. They are getting his chest x-ray done tomorrow just in case, to rule out pneumonia. sigh. Bring on the summer and spray parks!

The Virginia transportation bill was a big mess before it passed. Oh what a big mess. When it did pass though, it showed the utter idiocracy that has befallen our government. The only reason some of us were happy, metro gets a little more funding for repairs, etc.

But the logic behind some of the rules passed makes no sense. The summary is found here.

Well, recently we got a new car - a hybrid. At my insistence. I figured gas prices will only go up. It's better for the environment over the long run. If we can use free energy, why pay for it?! And so we got the Prius.

It seems someone in Richmond believes we are evading gas tax (proceeds which go towards maintenance and building roads in VA). So, as a hybrid owner I have to fork out $64 a year since I am not contributing to the roads' maintenance. Oh, that's after they reduced the gas tax too (they increased sales tax instead).

I am not against taxes. Fine if they have to increase sales taxes. We all should contribute for better infrastructure. But the hybrid tax makes no sense?! Plus, we hardly use the roads...we use the METRO!! I guess there's a reason for not fixing metro/public transport system. Revenues for roads will crumble! :S

What a tangled mess we indeed weave.

I am getting rather tired of explaining to people that we don't wear wedding gowns in a Hindu wedding, at least during the rituals. Friends from Malaysia have been forever pestering me about how my gown looks. These days even the Budhist Chinese (Malaysian) are dawning on the famous white wedding gown often seen worn by Christians in place of the cheong sam. They often get quite elaborate with the dress, hair & makeup, looking like cinderella. I remember when I first mentioned to my friend (who's Malay), she sent me a link to a whole bunch of websites showing wedding gowns. It's hard for them to imagine that not every girl wants to look like cinderella. And when I shared the news that I will be wearing sarees, she suggested I still go window shopping for them any how. @#$#! I understand they just want to share the excitement and they do it in the way they best know how. But I am just ranting. I guess it also goes to show the lack of Indian friends in this circle of people. sigh.

I will be wearing beautiful sarees for the wedding & a gaghra/choli for the reception!!!! No wedding gowns!!!! And my hubby-to-be will be wearing a silk dhoti during the ceremonies & a sherwari suit for reception. No suits/tuxedos (which is quite common in Bangalore wedding receptions)!! It's not that it's not nice...oh they are.... just this is something different and nice as well!
