Day 7 - Miami Beach
Jan. 21st, 2010 07:39 pmDecember 31, 2009
Our last day in Florida. We packed and we somberly drove up to Miami and onto South Beach to spend the day at the beach. Well, we only had three hours there. For two hours we basked in the glory and enjoyed the crystalline shallow waters of the Atlantic ocean. It was just beautiful! We had a change of clothes in the car, after all we needed to dress warmer for our return. So, we got drenched in whatever we were wearing. And truly enjoyed ourselves!

We kept asking ourselves why we were heading back to the freezing temperatures... sigh

The seagulls all at attention on the roof!

We really had a tough time leaving. But soon our stomachs growled and we got lunch at a TexMex place - where we were forced to give a tip and still pick up our own food and stuff. We decided not to clear the tables though! The food was good though the service not so great! But ah well... our stomachs were satisfied and we had to rush off to Fort Lauderdale to return the car and catch a flight!
The rental car people were just great! While we were waiting for the shuttle to drop us off at the airport, we waited outside under the sun. One of the staff members suggested we can wait inside away from the sun. We almost all in unison said, "we are basking in the sun's warmth, as we probably won't see it till May once we get back home!" He understood and talked with us for some time.
The same with the shuttle driver - although this fellow was more interested in the text messages he was receiving. But he was still friendly nonetheless. We even asked (begged really!!) the lady who helped check-in our luggage at the check-in counter to enjoy the warmth for us! She laughed and said she will do that!
We landed in Baltimore Washington International on a cold dreary rainy New Year's eve. It was freezing and gloomy. Not a single smile came from any of the service folks - we had booked the supershuttle. The driver looked so upset and didn't even acknowledge the passengers. There MIL and I decided that weather does after all affect people's moods! What a contrast in a matter of three hours!! He finally did give a smile when N gave a small tip! Ah well... I couldn't blame him too much for his lousy mood. Our moods had also changed by the time we reached home... oh the cold... why were we back?! With that we wished 2009 farewell and welcomed in 2010 with Dick Clark & the ball dropping in Times Square on TV and FIL on the phone, who talked through it all!
