Day 5 - Miami, one more time!

N had a horrible night with throwing up and all the yucky stuff. No fun. But the morning he was feeling bit better. We checked out and headed back to Miami as planned. It was a beautiful drive back. I filled up gas for the first time in the US!! hehehe

>This time we decided with such a beautiful day in hand, we should head to the beach again. So, we ditched the idea of sightseeing in Miami and headed down to South Beach. What a contrast the city was! The hotels were no longer blaring hih-hop/rap/R&B but playing instead soft rock, country music! The people on the streets were a mixture of everyone... just as I was expecting the city to be!

And we both jumped into the aqua green waters! Of course, as we did the clouds came in a bit... but ah well... we enjoyed and relaxed.

We then decided that we should after see a bit of Miami city... and so drove through Little Havana.... around there somewhere for the first time I saw a gun shop in my life!

As we stopped in Little Havana to make a call to the rental car people that we were going to drop off the car that night, we stopped by this mural that showed all the leaders from history that have affected the lives of the Cubans in Miami.

We drove down to Coral Gables and had dinner at the Cafe at Books & Books. The bookstore was really neat. It didn't give the feel of the big chain bookstore but of a place people come to discuss books and browse for books. The food was also yummy and very filling! The waitress was very friendly! She let us use her mobile phone cause none of the public phone booths we tried were working to call the rental folks. After dinner we just aimlessly drove around and headed back to drop the car off. Northcliff was there that evening and drove us down to the Days Inn by the airport where we were going to spend the last night in Miami at. He informed us when we commented about the difference we saw in South Beach on Memorial Day weekend and then just that morning. He shared that the African American community celebrates its heritage month every year in Miami Beach - at least for the last three years. Before it was in Virginia Beach. It's a beach day for them! ah ha! That explained a lot of it!! ;)
So that was our time in Miami. The following morning we caught the 8:30am flight back to Washington DC. The city welcomed us back with a heavy downpour and thunderstorm and hasn't stopped raining really since.

Date: 2009-06-10 04:40 pm (UTC)I was going to say the same thing that SouthBeach would be different in your first post where you mentioned about how Miami had so many African American people...I do wonder that CSI Miami does not have many African American actors as well. LOL!
Nice!
