Around and in DC

One of the things I was looking forward to about four seasons was seeing fall/autumn* with N. I was looking forward to the walks in the park with leaves in all shades of reds & oranges. It really would be my first time to see the leaves change colours. Rome winter was cold for us back then but it wasn't cold enough for the leaves to shed. Or maybe they did and I just don't remember.
Alas, with me, the warmth came to Arlington/Dc and fall came late in Arlington/DC. A tree here and a tree there changed its colours but most looked like evergreens I have been seeing back in KL**.
And finally with a week of cold cold weather the trees are finally on track. And it seems I just might get to see it with N after all! Currently the view from the window is a sea of trees in shades of greens, yellows, and reds...it's gorgeous..
* what is the difference?
** I need to get out of the habit of abbreviated Kuala Lumpur. sigh. But it feels so strange saying it all out.
On Saturday, for Veteran's Day weekend I headed to the National Mall to watch the Vietnam War veterans walk in a parade. It also marked the 25th anniversary of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. I bundled up and prepared for the cold. It was wavering somewhere in the late 30s (around 5C). Caught some bands preparing and warming up before the start of the parade.

I watched the opening ceremony for a while with many veterans of all races and backgrounds. I came in the middle of his speech and wasn't sure who he was.
After some time I walked down to where the parade would walk by and found myself a nice spot to watch from. And immediately the veterans riding the Rolling Thunders caught everyone of our eyes & ears! You couldn't really miss them!
Others in the parade:
I was cold. I should have taken my gloves. And when I saw the girls below I quit my complaining! brrrrr.r....
Across the street from me I saw this little toddler watching the parade. She was truly a bundle of joy to watch! Unfortunately the grandfather got cut off. My focus was so much on the little one and mom, I didn't even realise the grandpa next to them until I came home and looked at the photos!! Plus, the next group was marching in! It would have made a great shot if I didn't cut the grandfather out! sigh... It's still cute!
oh and did I mention I love my camera?! :D
Anyhow, I couldn't take it anymore. My muscles were stiffening up. I got up and walked along the parade and headed down towards the Washington Monument. (More pictures on flickr if u wish).
On the way, I stopped at the World War II Memorial. Some pics from there:

Saw the Lincoln Memorial from the distance and then after four hours out, headed home!
Even though the place was filled with people - couples, group of friends, boy scouts, families, the vastness of the place drowned out all the noise to a whispering level! It was a nice day out. But how I wished the whole time not just for a pair of gloves but also for the company of my hubby.
