groups & you....
Mar. 12th, 2007 06:41 pmthose who know me by now should realise that you don't do things to just support me. Do whatever you choose to do because you want to, and the support part is the by-product, a bonus, the icing on the cake. The former doesn't impress me much. The latter is what makes me truly happy. I guess it's also because I don't want them to expect me to do something just to support. I can't tolerate the feeling of obligation. The feeling that I owe someone something. I usually don't. I do things because I want to, it's the right thing, and/or it makes me happy to see the other happy. It also keeps things simple and also not get all touchy feely. And over-politeness sends shivers up my back. And for whatever reason you do something just to support me don't go telling me that and expect a thank you. If I don't know you, I might just be polite and say thanks but otherwise I most likely will give a sarcastic response or a blank stare.

Feeling part of a group is often human nature. It's nice. It's good and it's often needed to accomplish anything. But don't please don't expect people to just agree with you to fit in the group. That makes it homogenous, it makes it dangerous, and for me an absolute bore. Have your own mind, listen to others, see different views, discuss, argue, and learn. You might not be able to or need to walk in someone else's footsteps/shoes, but at least gain a different perspective. Be yourself, be bold, know that the group is there to fall back on just in case you fall or in case you succeed you have a group to celebrate with. But don't not do something that's different from the norm because of what the group might think. Don't keep others from not doing something something from the norm because that might be perceived as anti-team-attitude. It's ok if a whole group can't go to something. the world won't come to an end...
At the same time, I am afraid that some of these aspects taken to the extreme/negatives often become the reason for the hatred, for the wars, for the prejudices people have and keep and act out upon. And maybe the world just mind end...being a good place to be.
oh office politics can teach you a lot about the world! ;)
