Women...

It's international women's day...yesterday... or something to that effect. No, I am not saying it's no big deal. It is. But what does bringing it up on one day of the year going to do?! How have we really changed any? So, in recognition of it I will leave you with an ad description to show you how far we have progressed in the women's movement.

I have seen this particular ad several times while surfing the channels on Astro. I don't know if it's only played in malaysia or for the whole region. It's women's golf tournament ad. Like any golf advert they show all the players looking all neat and stuff. That's where the equality between women & men stop. The ad actually zooms in on to just the bare legs of the women players wearing shorts/skirts to get the viewers to watch. I can just imagine that their interest in increasing women viewers is zilch.

I am very much excited about future generations growing up in this subtle objectification of women (or men, whatever..). At least we don't beat them up as much in the civilised world! Go progress! oh goodness...

Actually, I don't think that is objectification as much as it is porno-pervasion(not that I think that's more acceptable). See my last post to see what I mean.

Most women are totally blind to how we are still objectified. I see progress, but this is an area where we still need to create an awareness.
There are areas in which it's quite clear, yet no one interferes. Female tennis players have to wear those skirts which don't deserve the name to be allowed to play at all. How come both men and women keep watching tennis? I find tennis absolutely boring, but the silly costumes make my blood boil. It's so sexist!
