Anyhow, I need to get a new laptop in the low to mid price range. Any suggestions? After having one for 4 years I have forgotten what to look for when buying one. hmmmm

I have a Thinkpad T43 (Lenovo, was IBM) and I like it a lot. It is quite thin, has long battery life and is pretty fast for a notebook. The Ts are sort of mid range for Lenovo as far as price, performance, and importantly for me: weight (it's much lighter than the R30 that it replaced). The annoying thing about Lenovo is that you have to order everything through the website sight unseen (I was an IBMer when I got it, so I had seen what I was getting), and they tend to be more expensive than, say Dell. Dells tend to break though, so I wouldn't get one of those. Whatever you get, make sure you have lots of memory!

hmm we have bought all our PC/laptops unseen. :) Our IT Guy gets it for us. We only see the specs and say yes! I did see a thinkpad the other day at the shop though - display unit. But yeah am leaning towards Thinkpad as opposed to a Dell. Although this particular laptop ran through with me for nearly 4 years without a problem! But that's a rarity compared to the ones our office has and some friends have.

We have Acer here, which I believe follows IBM a lot, and is much more affordable! ;) But seeing that I might be moving countries soon, it's not something I want to take.

I also was given a quote for an HP-Compaq. I used to have a compaq and had lots of problems with it and hence hasn't left a good impression of it.

But then to add there are so many models ...i get lost! Yes..memory! thanks..
