Apr. 6th, 2015 11:29 amHad a wonderful weekend and no time to surf really... more later. If anyone would like to add more questions, feel free to ask away!

neslihan - Do you have a favorite Indian author? If so, who, and which book from him or her should we all read first??
April 6: from
mrs_dragon - Following onto neslihan's question, favorite Bollywood film?
oh dear... I haven't watched many Bollywood movies lately. But let me try. From the ones I have watched in the last few years:

- R. K. Narayan - any of his books! His series with Malgudi Days & Swami & Friends were something we as kids grew up with. The innocence, the simple life, the little joys, disappointments of Swami. He was a wonderful writer!
- Amitav Ghosh - The Ibis Trilogy - I read the first two and amazing books!! Waiting for the third to come out this year! I randomly picked the first of the series not knowing anything about him. But really liked the books!
- Sudha Murthy - Wise & Otherwise. She is not known for being an author. She is known for her work. My MIL had this book at home and it was a quick read and was wonderful stories.
- Suketu Mehta - Maximum City
- Kiran Desai - The Inheritance of Loss - a heavy book/read but a good one.
- And one I have been wanting to read: Oleandar Girl by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

oh dear... I haven't watched many Bollywood movies lately. But let me try. From the ones I have watched in the last few years:
- Kahaani - it was refreshing to see a woman as a main character in a thriller for a change! I dragged my feet in wanting to watch this. Hubby had picked it up at the library. And wow.. I think this has been the best in some time, Hollywood or Bollywood! I believe Warner Brothers is now doing a Western adaptation but still based in Calcutta.
- Any of the recent Aamir Khan's movies - 3 idiots, PK, Like Stars on Earth, (except the Dhoom series, although they are great if you just want to pass time mindlessly)
- Sholay - an old movie but one of my favourite! :D
- Well Done, Abba
- A Peck on the Cheek - warning: Keep a box of tissues. Beautiful movie!
