Mac is starting to suck.....isolationists...or everyone else is just jealous...

ugggh...this whole Mac purchase is starting to becoming a bigger problem as each update of other non-mac products attached to Mac are going through.

We got a terrabyte external drive which was working fine. We back up our pictures/videos on it. My hubby uploads his camera photos to his PC and then to the external drive. Well, now that I connect it to the Mac, they are all read-only files! A recent update bug created.

My new smartphone, google phone, was working all this while until Android went and updated (which was great actually!) and now it doesn't connect to the Mac. I am able to charge connected to the Mac but not view the files, etc.

grrrrrrrrr.... either no one at Mac is bothered that there is a world beyond Apple products and people use a multitude of them or no one on non-Mac product folks bother that there are people who use Mac with their products.

... this is precisely why J & I avoid Apple products at all costs :-P We recently installed Android on our Touchpad and I'm actually not too pleased with it (my new phone also has Android and it's so-so) -- we like WebOS much better but no one's creating software updates for it :-\

Out of real curiosity: Why did you get the Mac despite your sis' warning? I just can't wrap my mind around Apple's popularity when it's incompatible with so many other programs / file types / etc.

Android's neat, for sure -- buggier and slower than WebOS, that's all. :-P This is why I'm not a business person: I don't understand what makes a product more popular than its competitors when it's not better. Marketing? Packaging?

Thanks for your explanations! I've only ever used Macs for word processing and web surfing, so don't know the differences in video editing software. Also, quick startup times is definitely a bonus.

I wonder which came first -- WebOS or Android? WebOS is free, btw. It's an open source platform. Which is another reason why I don't understand no one's developing updates for it :-( Open source has so much potential! Maybe it's the same reason why Linux didn't catch on with mass populations? People are afraid of free, open source...?

Let me know if you remember the title of the book!
