happiness

  • I am just feeling oh so happy! My back aches after 15 minutes of sitting down and I have been making up my own version of downward dog and child's pose on the couch with a bunch of pillows to relieve and taking "walks" around the apartment and at times nearly crying... but a little kick from the baby sends me out into these burst of joy and smiles from ear to ear!
  • I have been reading up on cloth diapers today and am still confused as to how you wash them?! I really don't want to be using disposables unless we are traveling. I should go visit one of the stores to check them out in person. I learn better that way than just reading about it. MIL was rather amused to learn how cloth diapering in the US is a growing business with so many different options!!! Also as mom is coming from Bangalore, she could get a stash of inserts and stuff from India. That would also help with the cost. But yeah, what is the process of actually washing them? I was thinking to use disposables for the first two-three months and then maybe make the switch. Just to make it more convenient as this is the first kid and am not sure how hubby and I will be handling it. Or maybe use disposables for night time in the first three months. But again.... I need to know how do you wash them?! :)
  • Then I read that some change all their detergents, shampoos and everything else in the house to more baby friendly products.... umm do people really do this? Or is it done when the baby shows adverse skin reactions?
  • Some friends have been asking if we have started our registry yet. We haven't. We kind of feel strange doing it. Anyhow, while N is traveling my job is to research out all basic items needed and some of them we will put on the registry.
Somehow studying for my MBA seemed "easier'!!

Can completely empathize with you on the back pain... :-\ Just got to keep in mind that it's temporary!

I'm in [livejournal.com profile] clothdiapering and http://www.diaperswappers.com and have found them to be informative. Not completely sure about wash routine either, because it seems like everyone does it differently depending the water hardness, type of detergent used, type of cloth diaper, and what the baby's pee/poop is like!

We're just going to start off with washing them in cold water with a bit of detergent first to see how that works out ... but I'm guessing we might need to do some pre-washing? I don't know, our regular laundry routine consists of just washing in cold water (w/ a bit of detergent) + single rinse... we've never used all the fancy options on our washer before!

It's great your MIL's so supportive of cloth diapering. My own mother isn't so encouraging, and ditto for most of my coworkers and Jason's relatives. They all think I'll get tired of the laundry and say that it's so much easier and cleaner to use disposables.

I'm not sure how I feel about all the baby cleaning products yet... all I know is that you're supposed to bathe babies in plain water in the beginning. We'll figure that stuff out later! :-)

Really? How come your dad is so pro-cloth?

Poop from breastfed babies is water-soluble and there's supposedly no need to do that swishing-in-the-toilet thing with those diapers... I'm still in the wait-and-see mode :-P Meconium's also supposedly easy to wash out despite its tar-like appearance, but I think I'll use disposable liners for those dipes...!

I dumped the poop in the toilet and sort of rinsed them in there, but that means dipping them up and down in the toilet and that could be a bit much for some people. You can also run a rinse cycle on your machine first and then a wash cycle to get the poop out. And there are also liners that you can get for cloth diapers, it's a biodegradable liner that absorbs solid waste and you flush it down the toilet

I started making my own laundry detergent years ago with bronners soap, borax and washing soda, I use it for everything including when I was using diapers.
