Carrie Fisher, RIP

I am not the biggest fan nor a big follower but I was saddened nonetheless. Carrie Fisher came into my life like for many others through Star Wars. I remember watching the movie with dad as a teenager. He made the observation, and of course, being a teenager, I rolled my eyes - but it stuck.

"the whole movie has one woman. One strong woman. And they put her naked in shackles for all to see."

Dad of course, was a big, avid, star trek follower and was dismayed that we fell for a cheap popular thrill that was Star Wars as opposed to the more intellectual brilliant star trek!

Time has not been kind to her. I remember when she came back in her role, older, she got flak for looking old!! She was strong, beautiful, and brilliant!

I thought of her when I took D to her first movie to at a theater and watched Moana - it was a day after the news of the cardiac arrest? Thank you, Disney for not killing off the parents and not having Moana chase after some prince or something. Maybe times will change. Slowly and surely.

But thank you, Carrie Fisher.

I think Star Wars is a lot more interesting in the context of what Carrie Fisher and Alec Guinness have said about their experiences. Also to a lesser extent Harrison Ford.

hmmm..would love to know. I watched the movie for the first time on TV win 1994 alone with my dad...so maybe one reason, although I enjoyed it then don't see all the over the top craze as opposed to closer release date with friends, etc. From the technological perspective yes, but everything else? yeah ok.

Yeah, but she was STRONG. That was a big deal. But I'm still a Trekkie. :)

If you get a chance, you might like her writing. I loved Postcards from the Edge.

oh yes!! I remember enjoying her not falling for Ford's character, the wit, the strength and she never played the traditional-damsel in distress-need rescuing all the time role. Absolutely loved that role. But she was the only female main role and she was asked to lose weight for it. But guess that was 1970s and that's how things were. (I watched the movies in the 90s). In that way, have to give it up for Star Trek for being way ahead of its time.

And blasphemous it might be, I think it's overhyped and overrated if just looking at the story, etc. For the technology/special effects - it was absolutely spectacular!

I was looking forward to seeing General Leia's part in the next couple of movies. It will be interesting to see how they deal with her death in the series.

From what I read she already filmed her scenes for Episode 8, so it is only Episode 9 where she will be missing (aside from any re-shoots needed for 8).
